Concerts, Poetry, Workshops & Outreach
Thursday: 17h30 - 19h30: Functions Room

After
the BAT Centre admin retires at 17h00 on Fridays, the Restaurant &
Bar, that is soon to be LAUNCHED as Ocean’s Eleven, is left to its own
devices. The usual Friday & Sunday Jazz Sundowners where a live
band performs on the Restaurants deck will be arranged by the new bar
owners.
The suggested music genre for this day should strictly adhere to the
African theme. This is the day that tourists from outside Durban and
KZN flood the BAT Centre looking for something culturally refreshing in
touch with the local identity. Maskanda, ingoma, reggae, mbhaqanga, and
various other types of home-grown sounds would work well with the BAT’s
branding as an Art Centre seeking to employ,
nurture, and expose the authentic sounds of home-grown talent and creativity.
Enjoy the Sundowner live music scene with an assortment of local and international drinks. Grilled chicken, lamb, Usu (tribe) and jeqe (African steamed bread), fresh spinach and pap. Also check out the live music scene on Fridays & Sundays.

usual Friday & Sunday Jazz Sundowners take place where a live band
performs. The music genre may vary from the conventional jazz standards
to the vibrant authentic African maskandi sounds, to fusion, reggae,
international or some rarely heard experimental cross-genre sounds.
An exquisite way to begin a new week . Be fluid and flood in to the BAT Centre to enjoy something culturally refreshing that may keep you in touch with the local identity. Maskanda, ingoma, reggae, mbhaqanga, and various other types of home-grown sounds work well with the BAT’s branding as an Art Centre seeking to employ, nurture, and expose the authentic sounds of home-grown talent and creativity.
