The Visual Art Studio

In this art space you find visual artists at work. The studio is home to a number of resident artists, where they produce, display and sell their artworks. Visitors are urged to browse thought the studio and watch the artists in action. This is a double story building that houses various art studios and resident artist of the centre.

 

Lalelani Mbhele

 

Mbhele is a talented painter, illustrator who also produces unique wood-cut prints.  He still remains one of the most underrated proffessional artist and illustrator. He has done various illustrations for childrens books and other publications by well-known writers such Gcina Mhlophe and so on.

The BAT Centre is an art development and community center located within the small Craft Harbour off Durban’s Victoria Embankment. It contains a number of retail outlets, a restaurant, bar and large hall fitted with sound and lighting equipment. There are large art studios, a number of exhibition galleries, music practice rooms, a dance studio, resource center and a conference room. A computer shop, repair and training service and offices for independent arts organizations complete the picture.
