The Visual Art Studio

In this art space you find visual artists at work. The studio is home to a number of resident artists, where they produce, display and sell their artworks. Visitors are urged to browse thought the studio and watch the artists in action. This is a double story building that houses various art studios and resident artist of the centre.

 

Sizwe Cele

 

Sizwe Cele was born in the South Cost of Durban. He is one of the BAT Residency Artists who graduated in 2006.
Up to date, he is one of the most creative woodcut print artists. His work shows a distinct move towards the establishment of his own identity in terms of style & technique. As a dedicated artist, he continues to lend his mentorship skills towards the facilitation of various children’s programmes at the BAT Centre.

The BAT Centre is an art development and community center located within the small Craft Harbour off Durban’s Victoria Embankment. It contains a number of retail outlets, a restaurant, bar and large hall fitted with sound and lighting equipment. There are large art studios, a number of exhibition galleries, music practice rooms, a dance studio, resource center and a conference room. A computer shop, repair and training service and offices for independent arts organizations complete the picture.
